Wilson Wrestling Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 Wrestling Season. We are very excited to have the opportunity to coach your child. We pride ourselves in offering training that prepares your wrestler for the next level of competition by coordinating with the middle and high school coaches in the planning and development of our program. Their guidance and direction for our program at the elementary level helps us to prepare our wrestlers for the higher levels of competition they will experience at the middle and high school levels. While we focus on providing strong fundamentals in both technique and conditioning, it is also important to us that we provide an opportunity for your child to have fun while learning what it means to be a wrestler.

The most important aspect of our program begins with YOU because the success of our program is largely dependent upon the degree of parent involvement we have during any given season. All parents are required to volunteer on one occasion during a Friday night home match, however we encourage that you volunteer as much as you like. Assistance is always needed with set-up and clean-up, working at the concession stand, and helping out with the spirit wear stand. We would greatly appreciate anyone interested in volunteering on a regular basis for set-up and clean-up. Additional information will be available to help you understand how the wrestling matches are organized and to prepare you for what to expect when your child will be wrestling. Additionally, we ask that parents make donations for the concession stand. This helps keep our costs to a minimum as we do not charge a “Volunteer Fee” like other programs.

With regards to keeping the cost down, we also have a gear exchange of shoes, singlets and head gear to help reduce the out-of-pocket cost. A table of items will be available during registration and upon request throughout the season. We ask that borrowed items are cleaned returned by the end of the season.

It is also recommended that you join us at our monthly Booster meetings and would welcome your active involvement in our Booster Program. There is much more going on behind the scenes than it often appears and the more parents that can get involved to share their own individual talents and ideas, the better chance we have at continuing to offer a first-class program for our kids. The Wilson Wrestling Boosters meet the first Tuesday of every month at the high school in room D405.

Throughout the season, important information will be conducted via email by either our head coach or the Boosters secretary. The head coach will be your primary contact. Team coaches may also address parents at the close of practice, providing you with any necessary updates.

The first night of practice during the regular season is when we hold our parent’s meeting. Many questions you may have now will be answered at that time in addition to other important information that will help to make your experience with the Wilson Elementary Wrestling Program as enjoyable and exciting as possible. It is our goal to provide a fun, challenging, and rewarding opportunity for your child with this program. If there are questions or concerns with any part of our program please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Eric “Rick” DeLong
